Key Stage 3
In their weekly Drama lessons, students are encouraged to become confident and creative communicators. Equal weighting is given to scripted and devised work; the study of influential texts from a range of genres gives students an overview of theatre history and improvisation is used as a tool for creating narrative. A supportive and experimental atmosphere enables the students to develop their performance and inter-personal skills.

Key Stage 4
Students opting to take the AQA Drama course have the opportunity to hone their devising and performance skills in a range of practical workshops. The study of theatre practitioners combined with live theatre visits enables students to challenge themselves to devise new and exciting work. In addition to refining their subject-specific skills, the course encourages students to deepen their thinking, stretch their imagination and develop a range of transferable skills. In the words of Bertolt Brecht, ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’; we hope that by the end of the course, students have developed a life-long passion for theatre.

Curriculum activities and trips
All students in Key Stage 3 enjoy participating in annual inter-form competitions: Greek Theatre, Melodrama and Shakespeare. At Key Stage 4 and 5, students attend a range of performances and take part in practical workshops e.g. Frantic Assembly, National Theatre.
