Structure of the Governing Body
The Governing Body are the directors of the company and are also the trustees, constituted under the Articles of Association of the Academy Trust. Governors may also be Members of the Academy Trust.  Click here for links to the Memorandum & Articles of Association and the Funding Agreement.
The Full Governing Body meets 4 times in each academic year.  The Chair of Governors is Mrs Caroline Kendal and the Vice-Chair is Mr Peter Cosmetatos, who can be contacted via the School address.  In addition, there are 7 permanent Committees.   Please click here for links giving information about the Governors’ Strategic Plan and Code of Conduct,  Governor Committees – Areas of Oversight,  Governor Appointments and Governor Attendance. The Clerk to the Governors is Mrs Tracy Holford, who can be contacted at the School address. 

·         Property & Premises – meets 4 times in each academic year (Governors: Mrs Black (Chair), Mr Cosmetatos, Mrs Cooke, Mrs Coffman, Mr Scherbel-Ball; Associates: Mr Cain, Mrs Watts; Clerk: Mrs Holford)

·         Education – meets 3 times (termly) in each academic year (Governors: Professor Stevens (Chair), Mrs Cooke, Mrs Gold; Associate:  Mrs Watts).
·         Finance & Audit – meets 3 times (termly) in each academic year (Governors: Ms Ward (Chair), Mr Amin, Mrs Cooke, Mr Cosmetatos; Associate: Mrs Watts; Clerk: Mrs Holford).
·         Strategy  – meets 3 times (termly) in each academic year (Governors: Chair & Vice- Chair of Governors: Chairs of Education, Finance & Audit, Property & Premises, Wellbeing, Head).  
·         Pay – sub-committee of Strategy which meets in July each academic year and again as needed (Governors: Chair & Vice- Chair of Governors, Chair of Finance & Audit, Head).

-         Fund-Raising- sub-committee of Finance which  meets 3 times (termly) in each academic year (Governors: Mr Amin (Chair), Mrs Cooke, Mr Warren, Mrs George; Associate: Mrs Watts; Clerk: Mrs Holford). 

-         Wellbeing - meets 3 times (termly) in each academic year. (Governors: Mrs Coffman (Chair), Mrs Cooke, Mrs Kendal, Mr Scherbel-Ball; Associate: Ms Barry)
Temporary Committees are formed as necessary to work on particular projects, for example the Library Committee oversaw the Library Project.

Kirit has a background in technology, change, management consultancy and project/ programme management, over many years. He is also involved in property as well as looking at new business ventures.

Jonathan is a barrister who works in media and information law, with particular interest in the fields of technology, investigative journalism, and political extremism. 

treeHover Alice Black
Alice is currently Deputy Director of the Design Museum where she is leading the project to create a new home for the museum in Kensington.  Alice began her career in banking in New York, and after moving to the UK, she joined the Imperial War Museum where she held a number of posts including Head of Strategy and Planning and Curator of the Churchill War Rooms. Alice is married and has two children. They live in North London.
treeHover Lisa Coffman-Elected Parent Governor
Lisa is a corporate lawyer and has worked in several large City private practices as well as in-house.  She now freelances for a number of law firms and specialises in corporate and commercial contracts and company secretarial work.  She has three daughters, two of whom attend the school, and is an old girl. She has been a parent governor since February 2014 and also governed at the school between January 2006 and December 2009.
treeHover Del Cooke- Ex-Officio

Del Cooke has been Head of The Henrietta Barnett School since September 2014.  For the previous 7 years, she was Head of an independent school in Surrey, as well as being a preparatory school governor and a team inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

treeHover Peter Cosmetatos- Vice-Chair of Governors

Peter has a daughter at HBS and has been a governor since 2011, chairing the Property & Premises and Health & Safety Committees and also serving on the Finance Committee. He also spent 12 years as a governor at an infant school in Harringay (one as chair). After a decade as a lawyer in the City, Peter now runs a small European trade association.  Peter became Vice-Chair of Governors in October 2015.  


treeHover Caroline Kendal- Chair of Governors

Caroline started her career as a solicitor at Clifford Chance and then moved to management consultancy, McKinsey & Company.  Most recently she has worked in e-commerce and has successfully founded, developed and exited a number of internet businesses.  Caroline holds an MA in Law from Cambridge University.  Caroline became Chair of Governors in October 2015.  

treeHover Gary Stephens
Gary is Professor of Pharmacology (the study of how drugs work!) at the University of Reading. Gary teaches Pharmacy students and conducts research into diseases associated with the brain. Gary is Chair of the Education Committee.
treeHover Jane Ward

Jane is a Bursar at Littlegarth School, an independent school and nursery. She was previously a Finance manager at New Hall School, an independent day and boarding school and has also worked at Crowe Clark Whitehill, recognised as a leading independent schools accountancy practice in the UK.

Richard has worked in advertising for over 25 years, both here in the UK and in the US and is a founder of DLKWLowe, a top 10 UK agency.
treeHover Claire Gelband – Elected Parent Governor

Claire has worked at a Barnet secondary school since 2012.  She has one daughter at HBS and another who was a student at the school.

treeHover Nisha George

Nisha works for a European bank in London within the Risk Management division, specialising in Traded Market Risk. After a number of years working in Equities, she now works in a Development Team. She has a daughter at HBS.
