United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
Last Monday I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to Barnet council to talk to the council workers about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The UNCRC is a human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. Despite being signed by more countries than any other declaration this treaty is relatively little known and UNICEF are working with communities to implement it more widely. One of these communities is Barnet where I am a member of the Children’s Rights Forum which is working to spread awareness of the treaty in Barnet. Overall, it was a great experience as I got to meet people from many different aspects of the council and discuss how they could implement the UNCRC into the decisions they make.
