Classics Society: Classical Architecture

On Monday 22nd January, Reha Shah in Year 13 led a very interesting session for Classics Society, looking at classical architecture from a number of different angles. Starting with the history and development of architectural styles in antiquity and moving on to look more closely at the column orders of Doric, Corinthian and Ionic, as well as the Roman Composite order that arose from these, Reha discussed the roles of these orders in both the classical period and in the modern day, focusing on sites of architectural significance such as the Parthenon and other parts of the Acropolis. It was very informative and interesting, both for those with little knowledge of architecture and for those who know more about the subject. Thank you, Reha, for leading the session and for sharing your knowledge with us! Ella Millwood 10S
