CyberFirst Girls’ Competition
On Sunday 26th March four Year 10 girls (Bethany Roberts, Miranda Purchase, Maddie Miyazaki and Jessica Ebner-Statt) travelled into to central London to represent the school at the national final of the CyberFirst Girls’ Competition. They qualified for the final by entering an online competition where they worked as a team to crack codes, program, and hack into websites. They finished this part of the competition as one of the top ten teams out of 2,171 in the country. The final was held on Monday 27th March in the illustrious surroundings of Lancaster House where the girls had to find the identify of ‘cynd00r’ who had hacked a school website. The team had to present their findings to a panel of judges including the international lawyer Miriam Gonzalez and Dido Harding the CEO of TalkTalk. At the end of the day the girls found out that they had finished in fourth place; a truly remarkable achievement for girls who learnt all the skills that they needed by themselves over the course of the competition. Well done on a fantastic result!
