Debating with Queen Elizabeth’s Boys’ School
On Friday 23rd June, a group of Year 12 girls visited Queen Elizabeth’s School to take part in a friendly debate. We were each paired up with a student from the school and given a motion that we had to either argue for or against. Motions included: ‘The Government should have more surveillance powers’, ‘The UK should pursue a hard Brexit’ and ‘Terrorism is the greatest threat to the Western world.’ We had some time to research our topics and form our arguments before proceeding to the actual debates, in which everybody put across their points in an eloquent and coherent manner. The best debaters were then chosen to participate in a final round and had to respond to some gruelling questions. We are very glad of this opportunity to practise debating and hope we can do it again in the future.
