Head’s Message: Welcome Back Everyone!
Welcome back everyone and a very warm welcome to all our newbies - staff and students!
Costa Rica Trip: A big thank you to the staff who led this trip in July. It sounds amazing – see later in this newsletter for details.
Summer Works & Grateful Thanks: It has been very busy here over the summer with lots of work done on the site and grounds. This includes refurbished toilets by Classics, paid for by the Parents’ Association and the doors in Bigwood replaced for health & safety reasons, paid for by a government grant. There has also been: regeneration of the MUGA surface, a Sibelius 8 music software upgrade for the Mac Suite, refurbished floor in Main Hall vestibule, and additional tables and stools installed in science classrooms, all of which was funded by the Friends of HBS parental donation scheme. We are so, so grateful to all our generous parents – in these days of cutbacks we would not be able to maintain the standards of education and care that we offer without your generosity - thank you!
Top State School for GCSE in The Times August League Table for the Third Consecutive Year:
Huge congratulations to last year’s Year 11 – 13 (and their teachers!) on their excellent A level, AS level (5 subjects) and record-breaking GCSE exam results. HBS was the top State School for GCSE in The Times August League Table for the third consecutive year, and 5th for A level. A record number of students got in to Oxbridge, 44% of the cohort who applied this year are going to Oxbridge and/or to study Medicine/Dentistry/VetMed and 89% are off to Russell Group universities. Despite the additional challenges thrown in with the reforms to courses at all levels, HBS students once again demonstrated their determination and came up trumps – well done, indeed! Detailed results and university destinations are on the school website (see the Exam Results section).
A warm welcome to the new staff: Ms Makinde, Head of Art; Miss Baker, Head of Biology; Mr Supperstone, Head of German; Mr Harbord, Head of History; Miss Kong, Geography; Miss Mehta, Chemistry; Miss Heddle (former HBS student), Cover Supervisor; Miss Mianda, Teaching Assistant; Mr Pojar and Mr Echeverri, Caretakers.
Important reminders: For safety reasons, please do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of school to drop off your daughters. As you are aware that there is a wealth of information about the school on the school website, including a large number of School Policies. Please do get in touch with us if you have concerns about anything or matters you would like to discuss.
Wishing you and your daughter a happy and productive term, Del Cooke
