Costa Rica Trip

Science

This summer the Biology Department was able to organise an amazing trip for girls from Years 11-13 to the beautiful country of Costa Rica. 15 hours of travelling through baggage claim and hopping off and on planes brought us to the capital San Jose. We were so fortunate that we were able to stay in 4 of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica over the duration of the trip, every few days changing hotel and enabling us to explore different parts of the country. Our tour guide, Jose, led us on a journey through Costa Rica that none of us will ever forget. From gaining more knowledge about the culture, and the very diverse flora and fauna of Costa Rica to zip-wiring through the cloud forest, every day was filled with fun and exciting activities that both the students and staff enjoyed immensely. We were able to attend a cooking class in the forest which enabled us to immerse ourselves into the culture, and on another day we went on a night trail, whilst being informed about the nocturnal wildlife in the rainforest. We spent time admiring and swimming in beautiful hot springs, and we visited the national park filled with exotic animals. We were also fortunate enough to spend an afternoon at a Costa Rican school practising our Spanish skills and learning more about the education system in Costa Rica. From other activities as diverse as trekking at the foothills of a volcano to watching and participating in traditional Costa Rican dancing classes, every day was filled with activities leaving us so sad to leave the wonderful country and appreciating the once in a lifetime trip we were so lucky to have been able to go on!
