Congratulations to Jiya V in Year 13 who over the summer entered the Physics Review writing competition and was awarded joint first place for her submission.

Her article about the popping of popcorn was described by judges as “novel, well researched, and very interesting, explaining phenomena that we are all familiar with but probably haven’t thought about in relation to the physics!”.

Jiya’s entry will be published in the Physics Review magazine (Volume 35, Issue 3) in February 2026. In addition Jiya wins a student subscription and a school subscription for volume 35 of the magazine, comprising four issues.

The Physics society (Wednesday 1:20pm, Y10-13s welcome) will be looking at recent editions of the magazines to discuss articles on cutting edge research in the field.
