Summer has finally arrived, and with it follows sports day, everyone’s favourite event of the year! But running around in the heat at StoneX Stadium demands energy, and that’s where the sports day picnic comes into play! What better way to boost morale and team spirit than having an afternoon dedicated to relaxing with your house over food and getting a taste of sports day competitiveness through tug of war heats?
Last Wednesday afternoon, the grassy grounds of HBS were overrun with our vibrant house colours: Maple’s green, Hazel’s blue, Willow’s yellow and Rowan’s red. Everyone donned their house colour shirts, and Hazel even went as far as to organise blue themed food! We all sat in the sun, relaxing on picnic blankets and munching away at our mountains of snacks.
But the picnic wasn’t all about eating – we enjoyed an assortment of activities; starting with the classic “Just Dance”. We all lined up on the muga, dancing away to hits like Timber and What Makes You Beautiful, while music was blasting in the air. As well as that, there was a netball shootout for all the netball lovers at HBS. Shoutout to Mr Raine for getting 14 hoops in one minute. Who said Pythagoras theorem wouldn’t help in sports?
And of course, to the main event – tug of war. These heats decide who gets the privilege of playing at the finals in StoneX Stadium on sports day. The winners for this year go as following:
Year 7: Rowan and Maple
Year 8: Maple and Willow
Year 9: Rowan and Hazel
Year 10: Hazel and Maple
The competitiveness was almost as hot as the weather, so congratulations to the winning teams! We can’t wait to see which houses win on the big day!
And finally, we can’t write an article about the sports day picnic without crediting the organisers. We want to say a huge thank you to our PE department, all the staff who helped, our sports prefects and of course – everyone who came! See you on sports day!
