Year 7 students have demonstrated excellent effort and enthusiasm throughout the year in Design and Technology. They began with their aeroplane project, where they learned the importance of planning, designing, and preparing before manufacturing a product. For many students, this was their first experience using workshop tools, as they carefully cut MDF components and assembled their aeroplanes. They then moved on to a bridge project, exploring forces, stresses, and structural design. Before creating their own bridge models, students took part in the Marshmallow Challenge, which helped them develop teamwork and problem-solving skills. In their final project, students focused on electronics, learning how to solder components onto a circuit board and gaining valuable practical skills. This last project was particularly intensive and completed within a challenging timeframe, but every student rose to the occasion. The entire class worked exceptionally hard, showing resilience, determination, and a positive attitude throughout all stages of their learning.

Year 8 students have had a successful and enjoyable year in Design and Technology, demonstrating resilience, creativity, and excellent progress throughout. They began with a challenging Mechanical Toy project, learning about linkages, levers, gears, and finger joints while developing practical workshop skills and perseverance. They then moved on to the Eco Town project, where they explored sustainable energy and environmentally friendly living, working in teams to design and present innovative towns for future generations. The quality of their presentations and final models was outstanding, reflecting the dedication and teamwork shown by all students. Their work is now proudly displayed in the Design and Technology department and has been admired by many visitors. In their final project, students focused on electronics, learning how to solder components to create a Steady Hand Game. It was rewarding to see how much their confidence, independence, and practical skills had grown over the year, with students working more efficiently and achieving excellent results. Year 8 should be very proud of their hard work, determination, and achievements throughout the year.

Year 9 students have had also a productive and creative year in Design and Technology, approaching each project with confidence and enthusiasm. They began by designing and manufacturing a jewellery box, with many students producing highly imaginative designs that included complex features and construction methods requiring further investigation and problem-solving. It was excellent to see their creativity develop and to support them as they turned their ideas into successful products. Students then moved on to an Architecture Window Display project, where they explored a range of architectural styles and design elements before working collaboratively to create and present their models. Although group work brought its own challenges, students showed great perseverance and teamwork, successfully overcoming any setbacks they encountered. For their final project, students designed and made a lamp, incorporating an electronic circuit into their product. This project allowed them to combine their design, manufacturing, and electronics skills, resulting in a range of impressive outcomes. Throughout the year, Year 9 students demonstrated creativity, resilience, and a strong commitment to their learning, and they should be proud of all they have achieved.
