Performing Shakespeare: Round One

A huge congratulations to everyone who competed in round one of the English-Speaking Union’s ‘Performing Shakespeare’ competition. Students from KS3 were invited to perform a 3 minute extract of any Shakespeare play of their choice, either a monologue or a duologue, accompanied by a 2 minute introduction. A record 78 students from KS3 opted to take part! After short-listing the top 5 performances, two entrants were selected by the judging panel of Ms Watts, Mr Graff and Miss Barker to represent HBS in Round Two. Anisha D and Riana P gave a captivating performance from Macbeth, highlighting the corrosive effects of ambition. A very contrasting comedic performance came from Ziana S and Aksayaa D who brought out the physical comedy of Hermia and Helena’s quarrel in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We wish these performers all the best of luck for Round Two and hope that every single performer is proud of the work they put in to prepare for their performances.
