Physics Society

This week, Ms Morris shared her Master’s research presentation on the 4MOST telescope at the European Southern Observatory. Her work focused on a tolerance test for Lens 3, a vital step in ensuring the telescope can make the best quality observations, to produce clear, and accurate data when studying the night sky. It was fascinating to see how such a precise test, carried out on a single lens, contributes to the success of a huge international project exploring galaxies and stars. Something so seemingly small such as a 0.016 degree tilt could make all the difference!

This was just one example of the many versatile ways in which physics can be applied outside of the classroom, showing the exciting scope physics has in the world. We’ve got lots more fun talks happening at Physics Society this term, so come along and join the fun!
