World Book Day 2026
This year’s World Book Day, celebrated on Thursday 5th March, took on the theme of ‘Myths and Legends’, with a variety of exciting activities organised by Year 12 English prefects throughout the week, inspired by stories from all over the world!

One of the highlights was the Mythic Mystery Trail, which ran all week. This included clues based on popular myths and legends from different cultures which were placed all around the school, each containing a riddle leading to the next – until finally being led to the English department!

Also, on Tuesday evening, many Key Stage 3 students enjoyed a Movie Night, screening the animated classic: ‘Shrek’ – a fitting choice for our theme of fairy tales and folklore.

The main event, however, took place on Thursday lunchtime in the library, where students gathered for the Costume Catwalk. An impressively creative range of costumes were shown off, from traditional mythological figures like Medusa, to more humorous interpretations of the theme. Particularly memorable costumes included Donald Trump and “global warming is a myth”, carrots (which, as we all know, help you see in the dark), leprechauns looking for a pot of gold under a rainbow, and countless more incredible costumes.

Overall, the week was a fantastic tribute to storytelling, creativity, and HBS’s favourite myths and legends!
