Year 8 English Trips to Bigwood

In the week of 11.5.26, all Year 8 English classes went out on trips to Big Wood, our local nature reserve. Year 8 have studied nature poetry in English this half term, and the purpose of the trips was for students to gain inspiration for writing their own nature poems. Students enjoyed filling in ‘Big Wood Bingo’ sheets, finding plants and other aspects of nature that fulfilled criteria such as ‘small but beautiful’. It was lovely to see students working as a team to complete the tasks, and the weather held up for all but 8.2, who had to endure some rain. There was even a sighting of a local celebrity! Students will have the opportunity to write a piece of nature poetry next half term, which will be entered into a competition to be printed in a whole-year group anthology, as judged by Year 12 English prefects.
