The Henrietta Barnett School is well-recognised for its superlative academic standards and championing of women’s education. As proud as we are of the extraordinary achievements of our students, we are equally proud of the warm, sincere and collaborative community which exists here.

The Henrietta Barnett School is a warm, friendly and vibrant community that prides itself on good relationships and it is very important to us that anyone who joins the staff shares and contributes to this ethos. New staff are readily welcomed and assimilated into this community.

HBS students’ outcomes at GCSE and A-level regularly top national league tables; the overwhelming majority of our students pursue degrees at the most prestigious universities and careers in advanced fields. It is indeed a privilege to work with such talented and motivated young women and with such dedicated staff. These are aspects of our school of which you may already be aware, and of which we are justifiably proud.

However, as proud as we are of the extraordinary achievements of our pupils – and as important as these achievements are- we are equally proud of the warm, sincere and collaborative community which exists here. This is a school in which authentic academic curiosity is nurtured and sits at the heart of teaching and learning, not an instrumentalist pursuit of exam outcomes. This is a school which prizes a broad, enriching curriculum, and developing future-focused competencies and skills as much as deep individual subject knowledge. This is a school where staff are keenly aware of the interaction between positive mental health, wellbeing, feeling connected and academic success and seek to support and promote all these areas for our pupils. These elements- perhaps less well known about us- are what drive our excellence.

We are fortunate to be located in the unique setting of Hampstead Garden Suburb, a quiet, picturesque area with a ‘rural’ feel, only a few miles from Central London with excellent transport links and unrestricted on street parking. In recent years the school has undergone a refurbishment programme which has involved the re-construction to a high specification of eight Science labs, two new state-of-the-art buildings to house Music, Drama, Art and Design Technology and the provision of dedicated offices and newly decorated and furnished suites of rooms for all subjects.

Our students are from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds and are taken from a large catchment area. Our staff reflect this diversity in that many have joined the school from comprehensives, some from the independent sector and some of our teaching staff have taken up teaching as a second career after working in other professions.

For our teaching positions, previous experience is not as important as a passion for your subject and an ability to pass this on to the students. If this sounds like the kind of environment in which you would thrive, then we would very much like to hear from you.
